Originally
from the Great Lakes area of Michigan, Wendy says she "grew
up fishing, mountain biking, running, all that stuff." Now
she's a personal trainer with a degree in exercise physiology, and
working towards her Master's degree in occupational therapy. Don't
think all this education is just theoretical... she's an avid athlete,
and recently completed her 15th marathon, coming in a respectable
12th place in the women's division. And now she's ready to ratchet
the competition up another notch, as she prepares to run the Detroit
Marathon this fall. "I met someone at an Adidas shoot who's
a competitive runner, and she developed a training program for me,
so we'll see what I can do at full potential!"
Her fit
physique has proved an excellent entry into modeling, and for the
past couple years she's been represented by several model agencies
around the country, all keeping her busy doing lifestyle and fitness
photography for big-time clients like SELF Magazine, Adidas,
and Prevention. Getting started was a no-brainer, but it
took some encouraging. "My sister, who's been a full-time model
for thirteen years, was basically non-stop harassing me about it."
What did she submit to get picked up by her first agency? "Some
good old harsh bra and undie polaroids!" she laughs.
She says
unequivocably that her shoot for sugartwist was the most
fun she's ever had on set. "On a lot of my shoots, they twist
you up like a pretzel, then put lip gloss on you and expect you
to look beautiful. But when you work with a photographer who lets
you fly with what you're feeling, it's a great freedom." And
a good hair and makeup team definitely are a plus: "Ty and
Andre rock! They were awesome to work with as well." A reserved
person in "real" life, Wendy says that most of the people
she deals with on a daily basis have no idea she's a model. "It's
sort of a secret pride. I love being a different person for a day...
it's a great feeling getting all girlied up!"
